Kim Long Curry Fish Head 金龙咖哩鱼头 @ Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru.

Kim Long Curry Fish Head 金龙咖哩鱼头 @ Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru.

Kim Long Curry Fish Head at Jalan Wong Ah Fook has been one of the landmark restaurants in Johor Bahru, not only attracting local patrons, but is also Singaporean's favourite. We have been seeing long queue outside Kim Long Restaurant during lunch hour and with the worries of long waiting, we have not visited Kim Long at Jalan Wong Ah Fook, but it remains one of the items on our list. Until we found out a restaurant in Taman Pelangi also bears the same name, more importantly it opens for dinner at night. We were told that all the ingredients used in Taman Pelangi Kim Long are being supplied by the main shop and hence the taste should not be far different. The good taste is also evidenced by the crowd, it is not easy to get a table on Fridays' or weekends' night.

Other than the signature curry fish head, this restaurant in Taman Pelangi is also famous with its kam heong lala (clams stir-fried with garlic, dried shrimp and curry leave). We noticed almost every table has this dish and we followed the trend too. The lala is really a good choice, very savoury to go with rice.

We ordered a small portion, which is just nice for 2 pax. The fish head also comes with long beans, egg plant and cabbage, making the whole dish more abundant with various ingredients. Although it is a curry dish, the fish head used is very fresh, hence its flesh is very smooth and solid. The gravy is not too thick with the appropriate portion of coconut milk, making it rather refreshing and not overly heavy.

Paik's Pan Sizzling Korean Chicken @ City Square, Johor Baru

Paik's Pan Sizzling Korean Chicken @ City Square, Johor Baru

Paik's Pan has entered into the territory of City Square for quite some time. As other freshies in town, the first few months of Paik's Pan's operation in Johor Bahru, there were big crowds and people queuing up to wait for seats. We visited Paik's Pan after a while of its hotness, although the crowd has reduced, we can still see high table turnover rate.

Paik's Pan is located at Level 3, right outside the Inner City. The eye-catching red and white exterior design is definitely a brownie point, making it look modern, yet friendly and approachable.

This is not conventional in Korean Sizzling restaurant in Malaysia, they serve side dishes which can be unlimited refilled! The cold side dishes (coleslaw, pickles and radish) are very appetizing and the warm seaweed soup really comforted our tummy before the main course served.

We opted for Spicy Dakgalbi Pan (Chicken) RM30.80/pax before GST & Service Charge. This set include of chicken in spicy sauce, fresh vegetables and rice cake.

There are other additional ingredients to be added to the hot pan. We had extra cheese and ramen to complete our meal. It costed us RM14.80 and RM 8.80 respectively.

Similar to other Korean Sizzling Restaurants, Paik's Pan has set the minimum order of 2 pax. However, the portion for 2 pax is definitely not meant for 2 person, it can at least feed 3 to 4 person. The overall taste is very delicious, but we hardly finished the whole thing with just two stomach, it would better to share the portion with more people.
