Venezia Gondola @ Pusat Perniagaan Seri Impian, Bukit Mertajam

Venezia Gondola @ Pusat Perniagaan Seri Impian, Bukit Mertajam

This is a follow through action from last post, despite our failure to have the famous western food for dinner last round, we went to the restaurant again the next day. We became smart for this round, we called and made reservation earlier, hence we were able to walk straight into the restaurant without having to wait. Anyway, that was no crowd, perhaps we reached slightly earlier before the peak dinner hour.

The restaurant, named as Venezia Gondola, is in a shop lot with mezzanine floor. The front part of the dining area has the high ceiling, which makes it looks spacious and grand.
We ordered a BBQ Pork Rib for sharing. The pork rib was grilled well and the meat fall off the bone easily. The marinade plays an important role too to remove the porky smell, and the clingy gravy made it taste even better. However, the portion is rather small for this price.

Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Sauce
To ensure that the grilled chicken remains crispy, the gravy was placed underneath and not poured on top of the chicken chop. The chicken thigh is battered with thin floured and grilled to golden brown. The seasoning was not overdone, so it is more inclined to home cooked flavour. It is a smart choice to pair the meat dish with mashed potato and blanched vegetable to balance the nutrient of the dish as a whole.
Grilled Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce
The same cooking method applies to grilled chicken with black pepper sauce too, the only different is the sauce.

Venezia Gondola left us an impression that their western dishes have been slightly modified to cater the taste bud of the health-conscious younger generation, which are lighter in taste and pay more attention to the nutrition balance. Credit should definitely be given to such intention to have delicious food with healthy ingredients and elements.

Shunka Japanese Restaurant 旬香 @ Pusat Perniagaan Seri Impian, Bukit Mertajam

Shunka Japanese Restaurant 旬香 @ Pusat Perniagaan Seri Impian, Bukit Mertajam

We actually wanted to visit a spring up western restaurant within the vicinity, however, the western restaurant was full house and some of the tables were reserved. As an alternative, we found this japanese restaurant which looks quite decent to us, so, without hesitation, we went for japanese cuisine instead of our initial plan.

Shunka Japanese Restaurant is not new in Bukit Mertajam, and this Shunka in Pusat Perniagaan Seri Impian is not the only restaurant, they have branches! In a way, it proves the popularity of the restaurant.
Ramen is one of my favourite japanese cuisine and I would like to try Shunka's ramen too. The pricing is reasonable and attractive, as it is normally sold at least RM25.00 in ramen specialty restaurants. Overall, it tasted not too bad and at this price, I cant't demand it to be on par with branded ramen.
Japanese Bibimbap is something new to me, but it does not taste very different from the Korean style. However, if you are a Bibimbap lover, this is a good choice, I especially like the idea of having onsen tamago in place of the normal sunny side up, making the dish not so dry.
The pork steak bowl rice looks very sumptuous with a huge piece of pork chop, egg and vegetable.

The teriyaki bibimbap is highly recommended, chicken thigh was used and well marinated. To balance up the nutrients, a big portion of cabbage was added and nicely cooked with the heat of the stone pot. This is super flavourful and it can be walloped up easily.

Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh 顺顺兴肉骨茶 @ Taman Abad, Johor Bharu

Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh 顺顺兴肉骨茶 @ Taman Abad, Johor Bharu

Century Garden, especially the area in vicinity of KSL Resort and Shopping Mall, has been very lively during recent years. The business of the surrounding eateries and restaurant has also correspondingly gone up. There are few eateries that we have visited frequently, Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh is one of them.

Soon Soon Heng located strategically opposite the entrance of KSL Shopping Mall, open for business from early morning until night.  Similar to other bak kut teh in southern Johor, Soon Soon Heng offers Teo Chew style bak kut teh, which is light in flavour.

The pickled vegetables is always a great choice as appetizer for bak kut teh meal. Their pickled vegetables are quite well done, flavourful but still very crunchy.

The normal bak kut teh is only served with pork ribs. According to the lady boss, they do not offer "mixed" type of bak kut teh as not everything in the pot suits everybody's appetite, any additional ingredients can be added in accordance with the customers' preference with extra charges. They have a wide variety of additional ingredients, like assorted mushrooms, fried beancurd, various pig organs (pig stomach, intestine, kidney) and etc. A customised pot of bak kut teh can reduce wastage as the unwanted ingredients will be avoided when customers placing their order.

Just like most of the bak kut teh shops, the soup in Soon Soon Heng can be refilled without extra charges.

Okay, I think I should stop here, I have started missing their bak kut teh, especially during rainy day like now.
