Foo Soon Bak Kut Teh 富顺肉骨茶 @ Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Bharu

Foo Soon Bak Kut Teh 富顺肉骨茶 @ Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Bharu

Johor is famous with its unique Bak Kut Teh, the Teo Chew styled Bak Kut Teh, which come with clear soup, but the taste is contradictory great with hint of herbal. There are few Bak Kut Teh restaurants in Johor are listed as the best Bak Kut Teh in Malaysia, namely Ah Soon, Mu Qing, Shi Hua and a few more. Looking for a decent meal within Taman Sutera, and noticed that there is quite a crowd in this restaurant which claims their speciality as Bak Kut Teh. We decided to give it a try as it will never be wrong to follow the crowd.
Foo Soon is having a corner shoplot, more to open-air concept, provide better ventilation.
Claypot Bak Kut Teh 富顺砂锅肉骨茶  RM10/pax
Foo Soon serves Bak Kut Teh in claypot, to keep the Bak Kut Teh warm throughout the dinner. Instead of pure pork rib, we have requested for a mixed version with pig intestine, pig stomach, enoki and beancurd skip, to add the variety in a pot. Although Foo Soon is not listed as one of the best, but the taste is actually excellent and above the average. The essence of Bak Kut Teh is the soup, just right to our taste, and as typical Johor styled- the soup base is clear but flavourful, especially good when I "banjir" my rice with the herbal based soup.
Salted Vegetable 咸菜  RM3
It has been a norm for us to order a little plate of salted vegetable whenever we are in a Bak Kut Teh restaurant, to open up the flavours and get ready my taste bud for the heavy meal.
Steamed Century Chicken 清蒸菜园鸡  RM23 / Half Portion
We have opted steamed chicken as the second main course. The smooth chicken is lightly steamed with soy sauce, rice wine and sesame oil, but ended up quite flavourful. The meat is silky smooth and tender, the taste is excellent with a dip into their garlic-ginger sauce.

If you notice their menu which shows wide variety of signature dishes, range from chicken to fish, Foo Soon is not only a Bak Kut Teh shop, but also good with many other dishes. Next round, I would like to try their fish too. Look forward to my next trip here!

MCL Fried Chicken 麦可乐香脆炸鸡 @ Taman Indahpura , Kulai

MCL Fried Chicken 麦可乐香脆炸鸡 @ Taman Indahpura , Kulai

Other than the famous chain restaurants, MCL is one of the popular restaurants for Kulaian to satisfy the craving for fried chicken. Originally, MCL set up their one and only store at Batu 22 of Kulai, just next door to the famous dessert place--Happyland. The business has expanded along the population growth, thus a branch at the southern part of Kulai is open.
MCL is located at a hidden part of Taman Indahpura, occupy a cornet shop lot. The restaurant is normally crowded during lunch hour, providing decent chinese styled nasi lemak with crispy fried chicken at reasonable price.
Cendol 煎蕊  RM2.50
Due to the hot weather, we have started our meal with a bowl of icy Cendol instead. The ingredients are generous, with red beans, cincau, cendol, corns, coconut milks and syrup of gula Melaka. The shaved ice is soft and smooth, with the fragrance of gula Melaka, constituting typical Malaysian dessert.
Fried Chicken Rice 炸鸡饭 RM5.20
Nasi Lemak served with a piece of fried chicken, a egg, little bit of cucumber and their special made sambal. While the standard of the nasi lemak is just of the average, the fried chicken is truly excellent. The chicken is freshly prepared everyday. The marinade plays an important role and the well control of oil temperature is the key to good fried chicken too, rendering the outer layer of the chicken extremely crispy, while the meat inside is soft and juicy.
