Shoon Fatt Bak Kut Teh 顺发肉骨茶 @ Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru
Shoon Huat bak kut teh 顺发肉骨茶 in Taman Sentosa is an established favourite among locals and Singaporeans. Shoon Huat's sign board says the business was founded in 1975. Shoon Huat provides the most typical Johor style Bak Kut Teh, the Teo Chew style Bak Kut Teh which is lighter and less oily. If you are health-conscious consumer, I bet you will like it as well. Due to the overwhelming good respond from the customers, Shoon Huat expanded his business to most of the district in Johor, and even in Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. But, since I am in Johor Bahru, I should go for the origin of the famous Bak Kut Teh!
AiYu Jelly Ice 爱玉冰 RM2.50 |
Soothing my throat with a bowl of icy refreshing Aiyu Jelly Ice. Nothing better than having this during a hot weather noon! The sweetness and sourness is just proportionate, opens up my appetite to cater the incoming heavy meal.
TauPok 豆卜 RM3 Preserved Vegetables 咸菜 RM3 |
Few types of side dishes are offered by Shoon Huat, preserved vegetables is always a must for me along with Bak Kut Teh, while the Tau Pok looked so tempting, and I can't help myself to order it. FYI, it is super juicy and absorb all the aroma and essence from the gravy.
Bak Kut Teh 肉骨茶加料 with Extra Enoki Mushroom and Pig Stomach RM27 |
Bak Kut Teh here is served in claypot, to keep the Bak Kut Teh warm till the end of our meal. As you see, the soup is clear and of lighter colour. However, it is surprisingly flavourful and aromatic. Pick a pork rib and dip into the dark soy sauce with chilies, heavenly perfect! If you never feel enough with the good herbal soup, the best part to have bak kut teh here is that the soup is bottomless and refillable.
A family photo of the dishes! =) Actually this is not my first time to try Shoon Fatt Bak Kut Teh, the first tasting was at the KL branch, where the taste is rather different, the origin of Shoon Fatt does a better job anyway and truly deserves the reputation.
